Built From What We Learned by Doing the Work
Holguin Media began as a marketing agency.
What it became was shaped by years of observing what worked, what failed, and what those results revealed about how businesses become discoverable. Today, that understanding guides a focused practice built around helping businesses become easier to find, understand, and recognize.
We Learned It by Doing the Work
Early on, we could build a beautiful website.
That did not mean anyone would find it.
We watched poorly designed websites outrank businesses with stronger brands, better websites, and better work behind them. Deeper experience with SEO helped us understand some of the reasons why, but it also created better questions.
Why does one business appear while another does not?
What actually causes visibility to persist?
Eventually, the question became larger than SEO:
What makes discoverability possible in the first place?
The Questions Got Better
We spent years pursuing that question through client work, implementation, research, testing, successes, and plenty of failures.
During COVID-19, earlier SEO work continued generating calls for Holguin Media while businesses around us were navigating unprecedented disruption. Discoverability had become more than something we studied. We had experienced its value ourselves.
As our understanding grew, something else happened.
Our service list got smaller.
Instead of becoming an agency that tried to do everything, we became more focused on the work we could connect most clearly to the conditions we were observing.
What We Learned Became Institutional
Over time, those observations became too important to remain informal knowledge.
They were documented, challenged, refined, and organized into shared models, standards, methods, and operating practices.
That matters because the way Holguin Media works should not depend on which person happens to be in the room.
Our frameworks create a shared language for understanding what we observe, evaluating what a business may need, and keeping the work grounded in the same principles across the company.
The knowledge belongs to the practice.
What That Became
Years of asking why businesses become discoverable eventually produced a more structured explanation of the conditions we had been observing.
We call it the Citation Authority Model.
It does not prescribe a marketing service. It describes why discoverability emerges and gives us a more disciplined way to understand the conditions surrounding a business before deciding what work may be appropriate.
Still Accountable to Reality
Formalizing what we have learned does not make it untouchable.
Every business, market, and engagement gives us another opportunity to test our understanding against what actually happens.
Some observations become stronger.
Others need to change.
That is part of the practice.
Our responsibility is not to defend a model because we created it. It is to keep our recommendations grounded in what can actually be observed.
We would rather change our recommendation than defend one reality no longer supports.
Google will change.
AI systems will change.
The ways people search, evaluate, and discover businesses will change with them.
Our model will continue advancing with them.
That is how the practice remains valuable when the systems around it do not stay still.
